The Beach Yards and the Shipwrights

There is no single factory at Tana Beru. The village is a distributed community of family boat yards along the beach, each led by a master shipwright — a panrita lopi — with a team of planksmen, caulkers and joiners. A commission is placed with the right yard for its size and type, and the construction company supervises the standard across all of them.

This is a strength, not a weakness. It means depth of skill, redundancy if one team is between builds, and the ability to match your boat to shipwrights who specialise in that length and style. What ties it together is the company’s single standard for materials, fastening and finish.

How Supervision and Handover Work

The company runs your build on documented milestones and represents your interests on the beach so you do not have to camp in Sulawesi. At each stage you receive photographs and, where you wish, a site visit; payment is released against completed work, not the calendar. This construction discipline is the same one used across the group’s boat-construction division.

At delivery you receive the vessel, its build record, and the documentation it needs — and, if you want a fully independent view, we welcome a third-party pre-delivery survey before you accept the boat.

A build rarely stands alone. After handover, some owners refit or haul out, some place their boat into managed charter, and some want brokerage years later.
