A phinisi’s beauty is in its lines, and those lines are the product of centuries of refinement. Good design here does not fight that heritage; it works with it. We keep the traditional sheer, bow and rig proportions that make a phinisi unmistakable, and put the modern thinking where it belongs — in the layout, the systems and the interior.

Traditional Lines, Modern Interiors

The gap between a romantic traditional exterior and a genuinely comfortable interior is where most of the design work happens. We plan cabins that are quiet and cool, heads and galleys that work at sea, saloons and decks that flow, and stowage that a real cruising or charter operation needs — all inside a hull that still reads as a classic phinisi from the water.

Interior style is yours: austere and nautical, warm and timber-rich, or clean and modern. We detail it to a specification the shipwrights and joiners can build to, not just a mood board.

From Hand-Drawn Lines to 3D

The oldest phinisi were built with no drawings at all, and the master’s eye still leads the hull. But for a modern commission we add value with drawn lines, a 3D hull and interior model, and a clear general-arrangement plan — so you can see and sign off your boat before the timber is cut, and so the build can be documented for classification if you need it.

Design for a Real Commission

This is design in service of building, not a standalone drafting studio. Everything we draw is meant to become a real hull on the Tana Beru beach. If you already hold plans, we design the build around them; if you have only a brief, we take it from idea to buildable specification.

Ask the Builder: “Can a traditional phinisi really have a modern interior?” Yes — the hull is generous, and once it is structurally complete the interior is joined to whatever standard you specify. The trick is planning weight, tankage and systems early so the modern comfort does not compromise how the boat sits and sails.
